Be honest with me for a sec... Have you ever wanted something so bad you have found yourself over-thinking it and killing it with incessant analyzing? Whether it's in your personal life, your day job, your friendship group, your love life or your decision to start an online business, analyzing something to death only does one thing for us... It stops us dead in our tracks and paralyzes us with stress and self-doubt to the point that we find ourselves unable to move forward. Have you ever felt that way? I know I have definitely been there. And it wasn't until it was pointed out to me *cough* many MANY times that I decided I needed to do something about it. Well, that was back in my late 20's and I am STILL trying to hone my anti-perfectionist skills. The struggle is real, y'all! Which is why we wanted to share some of the strategies we've put into play in our business to help us to keep moving forward...regardless of whether something is perfect or not. When you're first starting out and dipping your toes in the webpreneurial waters it can be downright difficult to know where you should be focusing your efforts. Should you blog? Start a podcast? Get social and start "networking"?*gag* Pitch for guest posts? Participate in telesummits? Oh, wait, I know! Host live webinars! Because...money! It's never-ending and if we're being honest here, it can leave you feeling, well, a little overwhelmed. Amiright? Because here's the thing... When we're first starting out we don't want to waste our time on what MIGHT work. We just want to focus on what DOES work. Lawwwd do I know how that feels. In fact, for the first 2 years or so of our business I felt like Josh and I bounced around from idea to idea, trying almost anything someone told us we should try. Because we didn't really know better...and we just wanted something to click. Fast forward a few years and I feel like we have gotten crystal clear on what works best for us right now. The top 3? Podcasting, webinars and live events. Especially live events. Not just because we've been able to meet some amazing friends, but because we've learned SO much as a result of putting ourselves out there, forking over the cash and showing up in "student mode" to try and take in as much as we possibly can. In fact, in the last year alone we've hit 7 events, and what's happened as a result of them has been truly earth-shattering for our business and our own personal development. Think live events are an unnecessary expense? Think again! And then click the play button at the top of the page and let us breakdown our 3 reasons why you NEED to attend a live event if you want to succeed in this game we call online entrepreneurship.

Well well well... Look who decided to show up again around these parts! *pssst* It's us...just in case the sarcasm was lost over the interwebs. Yes, we've been a tad MIA this past month...and we sort of fell off the radar. But, we have a really good reason... Because for the past month we have been drowning! Drowning in work and projects and priorities and conferences and masterminds and finding a place to live...so it's been a bit full-on over here at Chez Stanton. And if I'm being honest, because we had such much going on we had to take a step back from the podcast to allow ourselves to catch up and get our heads above water again. The good news? We're BACK IN ACTION, BABY! And what's more is we stumbled upon quite possibly the greatest productivity hack on the damn planet while trying to power through and get an almost-impossible amount of work completed in an impossibly short amount of time. So we thought we would share the time management love with you and help YOU get more done than you ever thought you could get done in a short amount of time. If there is one thing that I've learned over the last 3 years of running a business—or more so had hammered into my brain— it's that if you want to be successful with your online adventures... If you truly want to kick your 9-to-5 to the curb and create that lifestyle of freedom you daydream of while sitting at work... If you want to call the shots in your own life... Then you HAVE to make success a habit. I know, it sounds weird. I mean, how can success be a "habit"? But if you take a close look at the different habits successful people abide by, you'll see there is a common thread. Things like religious exercise routines, controlling their mindset, waking up early, surrounding themselves with other successful people, setting boundaries (and sticking to them!), and bouncing back quickly after a failure. Those are all habits and if you're itching to create success on your own terms, then you need to start incorporating some into your daily life. And if your mind is currently cycling through the many go-to excuses we alllll tend to resort to when considering making a positive change in our life, think of this... What would you rather have: A life that lights you up inside and makes you excited to get up in the morning, but requires some legwork (or ab work...depends on what day it is at the gym *wink*) OR a life that is safe and comfortable and let's be real...kinda boring! If you're giving the latter a big ol' thumbs down then you are going to dig today's episode, because we are breaking down the 5 biggest success habits that are currently rocking our whole damn world!

Be honest: Is there any part of you that would love to make or save or receive more money in 2015? Come onnnnn we all want it! I know I do! But here's the thing... Getting rich, creating wealth, or even making more money isn't just about working harder, putting in more hours or even coming up with the "next big thing". It's about mindset and controlling your emotions. I know, it sounds a little backwards. In fact, if you had asked me at the beginning of last year what I thought the biggest contributing factor to making boat-loads of money is I would have told you "working harder". Turns out I was dead wrong. And it wasn't until I really started working on my money mindset that I started realizing that I had a lot of money blocks. Like, a LOT. It's that time of year, isn't it? That time where the whole damn internet seems to be flooded with talk of goal-setting, goal-getting, and reflecting back on the year that was. And while I'm all for gaining perspective and planning for the year ahead - lawwwwd knows I love me some planning! - I also really dig learning HOW to do something properly rather than half-assing it. Which is how I feel about goal-setting. You see, I'm a big believer in figuring out what it is you want out of the coming year, but I never really sat down and gave it a ton of thought...let alone planned it all out. I just sort of winged it. I would usually either keep the goals to myself, or jot them down on a piece of paper that eventually got thrown out. But this year we decided to do something different. We decided to get calculated with our goals. We flexed our imagination, came up with some scary (but in the best kinda way) goals we feel totally lit up about, and mapped out how we were going to achieve them. That process alone has given us a level of clarity we didn't expect and has even led to a new exciting idea that is already in motion. And it's not even 2015 yet! One of the things Josh and I have realized over the past 3 years of running our business together is that sometimes? You gotta know your role. That means, acknowledging that another person might be better than you at a particular task. And not only that, but realizing it's probably best you step aside and let them do their thang. And while that might be difficult to admit or recognize, there can be true power in owning your purest strengths and allowing others to step into theirs. But wtf. How do you do that? Well in this week's episode we are breaking down 3 easy ways to discover your most powerful strengths and own them so you can become the best, most influential version of you. You know that feeling you get when you can't seem to wake up? Or you don't WANT to wake up? Or you don't feel like being social? Or you can't seem to muster one creative thought...let alone come up with a witty blogpost, podcast, video, or even newsletter? Or you just want to curl up in a ball, not think about work at all, eat bad-for-you food, and crush an entire season of Sons of Anarchy? Helllloooooo Jax Teller! No? Just me? Welcome to burnout, my friend. Nearly every single webpreneur I've ever met has faced it at some point, including us. In fact, I'm just now finally getting over that feeling. I mean, after nearly 3 months of non-stop work creating and building Screw U plus balancing social obligations, business obligations, and trying to be a remotely caring wife, it was bound to happen. And if I'm being honest, I felt it coming from a mile away...and yet I did nothing about it. Ridiculous. Now that I'm finally feeling back to normal I can see that me actively ignoring all those signs was one of the most detrimental things I could have done for myself. Which is why I knew we just had to shoot a podcast on beating burnout. Because honestly? It can take you down. Hard. If you've ever sat at your day job and wished for a way out you know that those daydream sessions can spark a myriad of ideas. Well, we did it! We kicked the doors open to Screw U two days ago and have already welcomed our first batch of kickass webpreneurs into the community. To say we are THRILLED is an understatement. However, I can't help but think back to this time last year when things were drastically different for us. I'm talkin' humiliating failure, ugly-crying, and a complete and total re-focusing on what we wanted to do with the Screw. 30 freakin' months? When the hell did that happen?! Honestly, I remember the day Josh and I had our first work session It was early January 2012, it was cold and gloomy as all hell out, and we were hungry to tackle this new website of ours. It was a skincare site, and we were determined to master affiliate marketing with it. We had plans. We had goals. And we figured "how hard could it be?". Fast-forward two and a half years and knowing what we know now, I wish I could go back, pat those two babypreneurs on the head and tell them to buckle in. Because these last 30 months have been hands down the most transformative 30 months of our entire lives. We have learned so much. Failed so many times. Experienced so much joy. Ugly-cried so many times *cough* okay that was just me. Lost money. Made money. Grown an amazing community. Loved. Laughed. And have thrown a tantrum or two...okay...that was just me again. And I wouldn't trade one single moment of it. |

Can you imagine giving up a cushy $160,000/year job to make a few bucks a month selling on eBay? To us webpreneurs it might not sound crazy, but imagine telling a 9-to-5'er. Picture their reaction. I giggle just thinking about it. Now imagine the immense satisfaction you would feel a few short years later when your online income far surpasses your day job, you own SIX profitable e-commerce stores, and your lifestyle becomes one of freedom and choice. That's the journey today's couple, Tess and Nathan, have been on for the last few years and today they are breaking down the power of niche e-commerce stores, the people they've been able to help, and the lifestyle they've been able to create. |

Confession: When Josh and I decided to go into business together nearly 3 years ago (wow! That snuck up fast!) we did everything the hard way. We didn't really consider time management. Improving our productivity never even dawned on us. And we were pretty much flying by the seat of our pants. Hell, it was a struggle to even get me to consider using Google Drive! I know. What was I thinking? Skip ahead nearly 3 years and we are alllllll about the tools. Today we're going to get a little DM (that's short for deep and meaningful, my friend!) and talk about a topic that makes most people feel a litttttttle bit uncomfortable. Money. There is no doubt in my mind that you have experienced the tension that comes when money is tight. Like a full moon, sh*t gets a little upside-down when your financial cushion starts slipping away. Now, when Josh and I got started in business we were lucky enough to have a decent sized cushion, but it turns out that running your business can cost quite a bit in the early stages. Within our first 12 months we had blown through that cash and boy did things start getting tense up in the Stanton household. Thankfully are more flush than hobo these days, but from this experience we have learned some massively valuable lessons when it comes to communicating about money in a healthy, mature manner that avoids the possibility of lingering resentment. I doubt anyone has ever said that building your own business will be a breeze, but it's funny how so many of us don't admit how righteously gawd-awful it can feel in the beginning. Learning how to build sites, struggling to understand new programs, battling with your partner in an effort to figure out your key roles...day-ummm, it can be rough. Which brings me to this week's couple spotlight, Charlie and Brittany. These two are only 6 months deep into business together and are speaking candidly about the trials, tribulations, and downright roller coaster of a ride they are going through. Not only is it refreshing to hear people speak openly and honestly about it all, but it's incredible to hear how far they've come in 6 short months. Good lawdddd, I need to get something off my chest. Not long ago Josh and I landed in North America for some quality famjam time after a year and a half in Asia. Besides the obvious cultural and climate changes (hot damn, it was freeeeeeezing!), one of the first things we noticed was how soul sucking Toronto was for our productivity and mindset. Now, we don't want to harp on 9-5'ers or sound harsh, but being surrounded by those who are locked into the corporate world never seem to understand what it's like when you're running an online business. Again, it's not their fault, but it is incredibly detrimental when you're trying to keep the momentum going in your business. Our short stay in Toronto really exemplified how being in the right environment can influence business, which is exactly what we be talkin' bout in this episode. So you aren't loving your day job, but what are you going to do about it? Quit? Just up and ditching your 9-5 in favor of creating your dream job might sound like a wicked leap of faith, but it can also be, well...a littttttle misguided. When jumping out of plane, you better have a parachute and the same goes for your job. Ok, so ditching your day job isn't as drastic as hopping out of an airplane cruising at 10,000ft, but you get the picture. In this podcast we were inspired by our friends Sophie and Carl to dish a few tips on how to build a business while balancing your current day job. If you heard Sophie and Carl's podcast episode, then you know Carl is still working full time while they build up their business enough to replace that income. Before we moved to Thailand, Josh and I felt like the only couple on this crazy rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship. After landing in Chiang Mai, it didn't take us long to realize there were so many other amazing couples out there going through the same ups and downs as us. One of those couples happened to be the every so British and proper Jenny and Lewis Smith. Now, we met this twosome at our co-working space and what's so cool about them is that they started their business journey at the exact same time as us. After honeymooning in Thailand they decided to kick those 9 to 5's to the curb and dig their heels into the world of app development. With a few successful apps on the market now (and even more in the works), there's no question that they've found their calling! |

Question: When you're feeling a little sick, a little "meh", a little off, do you Google your symptoms? Make an appointment with your doctor? Wallow in your own sorrow? All of the above I have to admit, I've been known to put off doctor visits for months because it just feels like too much of a hassle to actually get my act together and go to the doctor. I know, it's sad. And I'm lazy. Well, what if I told you that you could hop online and book an appointment with a naturopathic doctor, get some clarity around what's going on with your body, and never have to leave your home!? I assume you would do what I did when I heard about our guests today: Aggressively fist-pump. Which is why we're so jazzed to have Shannon and Alexis on the show today to talk about how they took their brick and mortar businesses online, transformed their life, and are now jet-setting around the world while helping people look and feel healthier. If there is one thing we know, it's how to settle into a new town, city, or island as quickly as possible, in order to get back into a routine and continue running our business. But it wasn't always that way. When we first started travelling we would take aaaages to figure out where we wanted to live, where we wanted to work, and what amenities were important to us; like having a bar close by. These days we try and get up and running within 72 hours so we can get back into the swing of things and enjoy our new surroundings once we're set up. Sure, this isn't the only way to do it, but it has worked like a dream for us in the past so we figured, hey, why not share the love...and unsolicited advice! Because it can be easy to get distracted and act like a tourist when you're in a new place...but that might not always be the best thing for your business. And really, when you're first starting out with a business together, its growth should be a big priority! Unless growth and money isn't important...but really, let's not kid ourselves here. *wink* Curious to hear what lessons we learned after fumbling our way through our first few attempts at living in a new location? Today we are gettin' a little craaaaazaaaay and chatting with a couple who are still in their 9-5 jobs. Well, sorta....but I'll let them explain. We met Sophie and Carl back in 2013 in Chiang Mai when they got in touch with us after hearing about us from Mish and Rob's site, and were BLOWN AWAY by their dedication, hustle, and determination to make this lifestyle work for them. At the time they were each balancing demanding jobs and then coming home and working on their business at night and on weekends. I mean, I just freakin' love that level of dedication and belief! Which is why we knew we HAD to get them on the show, because we think it's important (and helpful!) to hear from a couple that isn't quite free of their 9-5's (yet!), but are actively taking the steps to make that happen. Because let's face it: Just because you might want to screw your 9-5 job doesn't mean you can always just get up and quit. Instead, you need an escape plan to help you get to the point where you have replaced your income and can phase yourself out of your day job. Which is exactly what we're going to be talking about in this episode! Trust me, it's a must-listen for anyone still in their job, but dreaming of quitting. This week we're talking to a pretty freakin' awesome couple; Warren and Betsy Talbot from Married with Luggage. Now, these two have quite a unique story. They refer to themselves as a "recovering, 40-something, Type-A couple" who realized that life is short and made the decision to change theirs. Working together as joint authors, these two have just celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary (Congratulations!) and released their 4th book, Married with Luggage, that is all about love and travel.
Listen in as these two lay down some serious insight on what it takes to live, work, and travel with the one you love most. And don't forget to tune in for a new episode next Monday at 7am EST. Click Here to Subscribe and Make Sure You Never Miss an EpisodeWords of Wisdom in This Week's Podcast:

Josh and I have a confession to make... Sometimes our work life and love life come crashing together, but not in a sexy we're-still-in-the-honeymoon-phase-let's-renew-our-vows kind of way. Au contraire mon frere! In fact, there have been days when things got...ummm...a little emotional, shall we say. I mean, the fact of the matter is, running a business and being in a loving relationship together can get sloppy when you don't take careful measures to separate the two. So how does one go about separating work from love? Listen in and find out! And don't forget to tune in for a new episode every Thursday at 7am EST. I'm going to be honest for a moment. When Josh and I started working together, we felt like we were the only couple out there doing the entrepreneurial thing together. We felt very out of place in Toronto. After packing our bags and moving to Thailand, things got a bit easier because we were surrounded by so many like-minded people. We were still craving that couple connection though. You know what I mean...that couple you just jive with, can talk for hours with, laugh with, be honest with, and share the struggles with. About a year ago I stumbled across UK couple Mish and Rob from MakingItAnywhere.com. Now, these two have a wickedly successful business - or should I say businesses; they have 5! - and have an incredible story. To build on last week's episode, we are going to focus on one of the must-haves we mentioned; monetization models! A pretty damn important topic, don't you think? Because here's the thing: choosing a monetization model before you get going can really help you narrow your focus, niche down to a specific set of customers, create a brand that will appeal to that ideal audience, and ultimately help you make more money (and create more freedom!) in your business! Now, Josh and I have worked together for a few years now and needless to say, we have encountered a few *cough* road bumps *cough* along the way. But over time, we figured out a pretty damn good way of balancing our personal relationship while strengthening our business one.
